St. Julian – Simply Red

Described on the bottle as a “Semi-dry red table wine”, this wine is handy to have around the house, if, for nothing more, the screw-on cap. No cork to mess with here!

This wine comes from the St. Julian Winery in Paw Paw, Michigan, on the Lake Michigan shore. While I drink more Michigan wine than anything else, I generally try to avoid the typical sweet reds that my home state produces so much of.

The aroma of this wine is fruity, though a little flabby on the palate. If you try to avoid sweet wines, but find yourself in the company of those who enjoy them, I feel this wine makes a fine compromise.

Available almost anywhere in Michigan for less than 7 dollars.

My daughter is coming for Thanksgiving and this is her favortie wine. She lives in FL and she’s not able to find it there either. Whenever she is in MI she will take some home. Is there a place to find Simply Red in Phoenix, Arizona or Clearwater, FL?

This wine makes and excellent sangria for those like me who think that using a strong oaky Cabernet, merlot, or pinot not only is a waste of those wines but tastes terrible as sangria(who knows maybe I’m alone in this opinion). Be careful though this wine already has quite a bit of sweetness…so my advice would be not to add any sugar that you recipe calls for unless you realy have a sweet tooth
