Leelanau Cellars Witches’ Brew

Leelanau Cellars markets this unique spiced wine as Witches’ Brew around Halloween, but let me assure you that it is a great wine to have on hand throughout the winter. This wine has two labels, the Halloween one (Witches Brew) and the label for the rest of the year, simply named Leelanau Cellars Spiced Wine.

Leelanau Cellars Witches Brew Spiced Wine

If you’re looking for something fun and unique to bring to a holiday party this year, this is your wine! This wine is best served heated! Simmer in a pot over low heat until it is warm (the temperature of a witches’ tongue, if you’re celebrating Halloween). This spiced wine should not be served with dinner, but rather as dessert, with some good, dark chocolate. I suppose it could also be good before dinner, while folks are still arriving to the party. It would make a great ice-breaker!

Witches Brew is obviously a sweet wine, with aromas of cinnamon and cloves. It has very different characteristics when heated vs. room temperature. Try both!

Rating: 9/10 — Truly unique!
Price: $5.99
Where can I get it? Many places in Michigan carry this wine, especially around the holidays. I found it at Meijer. You could always visit the Leelanau Cellars north of Traverse City to stock up!

I loved this wine Witches Brew. It sold out quickly in every store in west michigan. You should consider selling it year around. I would like to buy 5 bottles of Witches Brew any help in where to get would be great. Everywhere around Grand Rapids is sold out.

I’ve been looking for this wine since leaving Michigan five years ago. It was a favorite of mine and I never even realized it was local! It is soooo good! Perfect way to end an evening.

Anyone have a good recipe for this wine, heated up and mixing with apple cider & spices?

  5. linuxdave Avatar

Shelly, I find that simply putting cinnamon sticks in while it is being heated is great! The wine itself contains many spices, which are very pronounced when the wine is heated. Apple cider does sound interesting though. Let us know.

Does anyone know how long you can leave Witch’s Brew on the shelf? Or is it a wine that should be consumed shortly after you buy it?

This is a very good wine. I usually buy 10 bottles around Halloween and stock up so I have some for the winter. I did not know it had two names though. I will be looking for it under spiced wine. I hope Meijer’s carries it also.

This wine, (Witches Brew,) is amazing, I HIGHLY recommend it. Everyone I’ve offered it to has gone on to buy many o’bottle. The store I usually buy Witches Brew was out, so I tried Traverse Bay Cherry Spiced wine. I’m sorry, but it was totally gross. They really should take it off the shelf, because it would discourage people from buying anything else they make. You all can thank me.

Love the Witches Brew, tried it a few years ago up in Traverse City. Around Christmas, Meijer sells the wine for 2 for $8.00, stock up on it then. Try warming it up in a crock pot on low, throw a cinnamon stick in it and drink it warm. WONDERFUL!!!

this is a terrific wine, and especially for the price. meijer stores in michigan seem to over stock this in the fall…good news for people like me….so you can find it there, around 4.50 a bottle. michigan has a lot of things to be proud of, and maybe wine isn’t the first on the list, but this one is. try it!!!

Found this wine in an Ohio local small market. I love it! Have not tried it heated, but will go back for more. It is a tad sweet, but the spices add so much. Great for chilly evenings all winter long!

Found this wine @ Meijer’s in Central Indiana…It’s fabulous warm and I went back to get 5 more bottles. I served it at a Fall Party for all my friends who drink wine and they loved it…

I made pork loin in my slo-cooker with witches brew last fall and winter. My family loved this entree! Made it three times and I have stocked-up on the wine @ Meijer last week. Will be making it soon for a small dinner party. In cooker, add 1 pkg. dry onion soup mix, 1 can jellied cranberry sauce, 1/4 cup brown sugar, about 1/2 bottle wine. mix-up, add loin. Cook about 4 hrs. on low. I turn loin over about 1/2 way. Very tender. Serve with roasted root veggies or garlic mashed potatoes. Enjoy!

I had this wine at a friends party on Halloween. This wine is fabulous! It is just a tad sweet, but the spices are amazing! The wine was bought at Meijer’s in Greenwood, Indiana. We only got the one bottle, but I wish we would have gotten more!

Love Witches Brew. It’s a delightful wine and should be sold all winter long, not just at Halloween. It’s perfect for drinking warmed in front of the fireplace. I’ve ‘haunted’ Meijer’s liquor department, asking for more, more, more, only to find out they stock it seasonally – and that’s it! A HEX on them!

I work and revolve myself around a Nothern Michigan music festival. The ladies in the festival crew of friends we spend a lot time with live off this wine! We stock up, sometimes 10 bottles, just to get up through the winter. I turned my sister onto it too; so I get for her every Christmas since she lives in Ohio.
It is one of the festival crew signature wines too.

I live in Michigan, and was looking for a spiced wine for fall. Facebook friends recommended Witches Brew, then others ganged up and said YUCK!! I think you either love it or hate it. I bought a bottle, heated it up, and found it a little bitter. I added about 1/2 cup apple cider and a cinnamon stick, and now I am in love!!! Plenty of taste for a cold Autumn eve. I’m going to stock up.

I was given a bottle of this for Christmas. I think it tastes like spiced pears. I love it. I am so glad to know it can be purchaced under a different label. The Witches Brew label is fun though. I rate it high. It tastes good at room temp and is great heated as well. Just the thing for a sore, scratchy throat.

I absolutely love this wine. Usually the local Michigan stores will carry it Oct-Nov and I stock up with about 10 bottles to last the winter. I love serving it on Thanksgiving, I keep it in the crock pot with a few sticks of cinnamon and (if I have it on hand) a clove-studded orange. Next year I think I might have to stock up on more and include it for out-of-town family as part of their Xmas gift!

I love my wine from Traverse City anything with Cherry is awesome, but my husband and I couddn’t get enough of this wine. He’s made mold wine for me from scratch before, because I love wine and I love the fall and drinking a glass of warm wine on a crisp day and night is a beautiful thing! Espically for this MI girl far from home in CA. Love Witches Brew can’t wait to get some more when I come out in a few weeks!!!!!!

Sam’s Club, Meijer, and Kroger (at least in S.E. MI) appear to keep this year round! I jut discovered that Whole Foods sells it as well. I hadn’t seen it before so it may just be seasonally there. I LOVE THIS WINE. What I love more is that it won’t wreck your wallet to even buy 2-3 bottles. Hands down my favorite seasonal wine. I don’t know what I’d do without this deliciousness for Fall and Winter.

Drank it at room temperature and it was nasty. Maybe you have to heat it to get the good flavors. Tasted like someone poured a melted candle from Pier One Imports into a glass of Easter egg dye.

Had this ambrosia the first time on a girlfriend weekend in Michigan, right at the Leelanau winery. Love at first sip. I took a case home to central Illinois. Walmart carries it beginning in September, shop early, the secret is getting out! Warmed wine is indeed perfect for campfires, but we enjoy it year round chilled. Great with Havarti dill cheese and/or dark chocolate…and all by itself! Please never stop making this delight for the senses!

Seriously I don’t know if it’s the full wonderful flavor of the deep red wine or the spices or the perfect mixture of BOTH but I am HOOKED and now that I know I can get it under a different label all year round….WELL NOW!!!

My husband and I adore this wine! We were served it at a Halloween party several years ago and now we buy it for ourselves every year. We drink Witches Brew room temp or warmed; with cinnamon stick or plain. Always perfect for a chilly evening! We were sad Wal-Mart in Illinois did not carry it this year; happily we found it at Meijer!

Can I get this on Virginia? When I go to South Haven, Michigan I stock up on it but I was wondering if there is anywhere here in Southeastern Virginia that I can get it or can it be shipped here from Leelanau? I miss it so much and also the Blueberry wine. In fact all Leelanau wines are great!
